Here a Swap, There a Swap, Everywhere a Swap~Swap

Would you just look at this!!!

pincushions.jpg

A package all the way from Iceland ~ JUST FOR ME!! Whoo hoo!! Berglind of Miss Bee fame was my swap partner for Linda’s Pincushion Swap and made me this wonderfully large pincushion…the perfect size to sit between my cutting table and ironing board. I can honestly say this is the largest pincushion I have ever seen…wow. I love how it is weighted in the middle so isn’t going to move around…it is great and I have already put it into use!! Included in the package was an adorable notepad and a pattern that Berglind herself designed! Yes, she is a pattern designer and I am suspecting that she sent me this table runner pattern due to my love of table toppers and runners. I’ve already sent Berglind a thank you but I thank you again Berglind… Berglind has some exciting things going on at her house..she is due to have a baby girl ~ if she hasn’t already arrived, as baby is 9 days overdue…hurry baby girl, your family is waiting to shower you with love.

This is the pincushion/needlebook and scissor case I made and sent to my swap partner, Marcia who lives in Sweden.

As soon as I was emailed Marcia’s information I began scoping out her blog and decided she needed something that would travel with her when she went to her various sewing sessions here and there. Above photo taken from Marcia’s site…she has been having fun with digital scrapbooking and doing some fun things.

I am having a great time sending and receiving international gifts. Currently I am working on the second Miniature Booty Swap and just today I received an email with swap partner info for Linda’s Bucket/Bag Swap. Both of these swaps are due in September.

Giving Credit Where Credit is Due

As I have mentioned before Debbie Mumm is one of my favorite artists. Each day I read her blog and I love rushing to her website on the first day of each month to see what wonderful (and free!) craft, sewing and decorating ideas she is sharing with the world.

I’ve made many of the projects on her site from quilts to water fountains, scrapbook pages to jewelry, as well as holiday decorations and gifts.

This month (July) my niece, Mandy, and I embarked on a year long commitment to send each other a Quote of the Month card each month, I posted pictures of our first cards a few posts back. This idea came from a blog post on Debbie’s site.

I am finding ideas for more QOTM cards and watching for quotes and really enjoying this new adventure. Mandy is feeling the same way…she has already made another QOTM card ~ although she isn’t sure she will be sending it in August, it just puts her ahead for another month…maybe for one of those busy months that mom-mom’s have from time to time.

I decided I needed to Thank Debbie and Kris for giving Mandy and I a fun way to shorten the miles between us so I sent her a quick email ~ imagine my surprise on Monday to see this on Debbie’s blog:

The Freedom to Craft!

July 14, 2008 in Creativity, QuotesQuote7 Nothing is more fun than to learn that someone has been inspired by our creativity. Quoteofthemonth001Kris was beaming with pride when we received these samples from Pam and her niece Mandy. These two are separated by many miles but share an interest in crafting. Quote of the Month was just the inspiration they were looking for to find another opportunity to keep in touch regularly and share their creativity with each other. QotmKris is more into the paper crafting, where Pam and Mandy interpreted their Quotes with more of an emphasis on using fabric. Pam shared that when her and Mandy do get together they shop our site for inspiration of what to do next. This is music to my ears – since every month we offer up lots of projects and ideas. Double your fun and share your love of crafting with a friend!

***At first I was thrilled that someone besides Mandy and I had decided to make QOTM cards…then (ditz alert) I thought the cards looked similar to Mandy’s and mine…then I realized ~ oh my goodness….those are OUR cards! LOL what a ditz I am!

“Grampa…I have something to tell you…”

the sweet little voice on the phone said.   “I lost my first tooth today!”  She is so proud!

Who told our precious Madelyn she was old enough to start loosing teeth?  Certainly not us!  We’ve got to quit blinking,  our grands are growing up too fast!

This is one of my most favorite of all favorite pics of Maddie, her daddy and her daddy’s daddy:

Grandma Mattie Once Told Me…

“The best gift to give is one you would like to keep for yourself.”

This is the gift I made and sent to my sister. I sent it Monday…which was her bday…and it arrived Tuesday. I really don’t consider it to have arrived late because I always send surprises to her office and she didn’t work Monday. She worked Tuesday…it arrived Tuesday…are you with me??? See, right on time! A direct quote from my sister:

LOL – you should see the people come around my desk when they hear I have received a package from my Sister!!”

sopobday.jpg

OK…now I will be 100% honest…I really wanted to keep this purse and wallet….really bad wanted to keep it!! It turned out so cute and I just knew I would love it…but as much as I wanted to keep it I knew Nancy would enjoy it more…and besides…it’s not like I don’t have more fabric to make another one just like it ;-) !

Yesterday I left work shortly after lunch in major need of some mental health time…yeah…just when life is going wonderfully you get knocked for a loop…I didn’t take it well so I came home and locked myself into MCM.

Remember those ME Wonder Wallets from yesterday? Well, guess what…this is where Grandma’s wisdom came full circle….and this is what I created during my mental health time:

The next two pictures are the side panels…. which were left over from making the Roman shades for MCM…

mepurse.jpg

mepurse3.jpg

As with all things….I had to ‘adjust’ the pattern to fit how I thought it should be made…hey, if you find a method that works for you ~~ Use it!

I’ve already moved into my new purse and wallet…and my sister has already moved into her new purse and wallet. We might be hundreds of miles apart but today we will be sytlin’ together. ~ Love you SOPO!!!

uh-dik-shuhn

[uh-dik-shuhn] ~noun~ the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.

Well, that is how the dictionary defines addiction…let me tell you what the real definition of addiction is….

[uh-dik-shuhn] ~verb~ the state of being mesmerized by a pattern you have been encouraged to try by well meaning pals…psychologically and physically taking over your every waking moment…as habit-forming as stash building and notion collecting, to such an extent that you leave the office with one goal in mind…to make more…MORE MORE….

Here is what said uhdikshuhn has caused me to lose sleep over….Wonder Wallets by Lazy Girl Designs. Can we just say…CUTE!

QOTM

My niece and I have decided to do a “Quote of the Month” swap with each other. We’ve agreed to try it for a few months to see if it is something we like doing…if our first month is any indication I think we will be doing this for some time to come.

Rules are simple…

This is the first month and we are both thrilled!

qotm.jpg

The one I sent to her was a fabric postcard ~ my quote is kinda lame, but the idea behind the design came~unknowingly~from her. I have only one red, white and blue quilt…a wall hanging that she made for me years ago. It is a raggy quilt so I made this one raggy to represent the wallhanging she made for me.

Here is the quote card she made and sent to me….it is darling!!!

quote-of-the-month-001.jpg

Being the patriotic kinda gal that she is, this quote has Mandy written all over it.

Hers is made from paper but she has torn the edges so it has that raggy look too! Funny how we were thinking along the same lines. As she and I always say…GMTA!!!

*The idea behind this swap came from Debbie Mumm. One of her staff members gifts each person in the office a new quote each month and they put them on alligator clips that are anchored with various weighted items. A fun idea!!

Wonderful times happening

My days have been full of comings and goings for the past week.  I took a mini vacation and we spent some time with kids and grands and friends.  To be honest, I don’t know where to start when I think of all that has happened ~ so ~ I’m going to give myself a few days to sort it all out.

Until then I will leave you with this picture.

frogboy.jpg

I am now putting my camera in my pocket when I go out to water…I am finding so many wonderful and fun things that bless me while spending time in the yard.  This little guy has been singing very loudly each night…for hours!  We knew he was some where near the window where Ed sits to read, but we had not been able to locate him.  Today I was watering the hanging baskets and he popped his little head up.  He hung on for quite a while watching as I went from basket/bag to basket/bag then disappeared.  I usually water baskets twice for each watering so the water can really soak in and sure enough when I got back to his bag and watered it, he popped his little head up again.  Such a funny little guy and he was so good to let me take 10-12 pics of him.  You can get an idea how tiny he is by comparing him to the nail in the fence.

And just because ~~ here is the other little guy I discovered while out watering today….
